Baby Sprinkle Invitation Wording: What to Say for a Second (or Third) Baby

A second or third baby deserves a celebration too, just maybe not the full shower with games, a registry, and a three-hour afternoon. That is where the baby sprinkle comes in. It is lighter, smaller, and more relaxed, and the invitation should feel the same way. The wording just needs to explain what kind of gathering it is, who it's for, and what (if anything) guests should bring.

Below you'll find a quick explanation of what a baby sprinkle is, wording for a girl, a boy, or a surprise, playful "sprinkled with love" lines, gift wording, and examples for brunches, open houses, and virtual sprinkles.

Rizz Invites keeps a sprinkle as easy as it should be. Choose from our baby sprinkle invitations, create one with AI, or upload your own design. Send it by text, email, or both, or share a link when you don't have every number. RSVPs land in one dashboard, and a reminder goes out the day before. Up to 10 guests are free, which covers a lot of sprinkles. Larger lists are a one-time $14.99, $29.99, or $64.99. No ads and no subscription.

What Is a Baby Sprinkle?

A baby sprinkle is a small, casual celebration for a baby who isn't the family's first. The name says it: it's a light "sprinkle" instead of a full "shower."

Here's how it usually differs from a baby shower:

  • Smaller guest list. Close friends and family, not everyone from work and the extended family tree.
  • Shorter and simpler. A brunch, a lunch, or an open house, often with fewer (or no) games.
  • Lighter on gifts. The parents likely kept the crib, the stroller, and plenty of hand-me-downs. Gifts tend to be practical: diapers, wipes, a few new outfits, or books.
  • Focused on the family. Many sprinkles celebrate the older siblings too, who are about to become big brothers and sisters.

Some families also throw a sprinkle when there's a big age gap between kids, when the new baby is a different sex than the first, or simply because they want a reason to gather. There are no strict rules. A sprinkle is whatever feels right for the parents.

Because some guests may not know the term, it helps to explain it in one friendly line on the invitation:

A baby sprinkle is a little shower for a second baby. Come for brunch, cuddles, and a few diapers. No big fuss.

"Sprinkled With Love" and Other Playful Lines

Sprinkles invite a little wordplay. Use one line as a headline, then add the details.

  • "Baby is on the way, so let's sprinkle her with love."
  • "He's been sprinkled with love before he's even here."
  • "A sprinkle of love for baby number two."
  • "Showers are for the first. Sprinkles are for the rest."
  • "Here we grow again!"
  • "Double the love, double the fun. Let's sprinkle baby number two."
  • "Our family is growing by two little feet."
  • "Round two, here we come!"
  • "Sprinkles, snacks, and a few more diapers."
  • "Big sister is getting a little sister!"

Gift Wording: Diapers Only, Books, or No Gifts

Gifts are where sprinkle guests feel the most unsure. Is a gift expected? How big? One sentence answers it.

Diapers only

The family has plenty of baby gear. If you'd like to bring something, a pack of diapers (size 1 or 2) or wipes would be perfect.

Diapers, wipes, and well wishes are all baby needs.

Diaper raffle! Bring a pack of diapers for a chance to win a prize.

Books

Instead of a card, please bring your favorite children's book with a note inside for baby.

Help us build baby's library! Bring a book you loved as a kid.

Essentials or small gifts

If you'd like to bring a gift, baby could use a few new outfits in 0–3 months, plus a little something for big brother.

No gifts

Your company is the only gift we need. Please, no presents.

No gifts, please. Just come with your appetite and your best baby advice.

For more ways to say it gracefully, see our guide to writing "no gifts" on an invitation. If the parents do have a short registry, put the link in the invitation's details or share it when guests ask, rather than making it the headline.

Cupcakes, crafts, and a "big sister" crown

A sibling-centered sprinkle is a lovely way to include an older child. If big sister happens to be turning two around the same time, our 2nd birthday party invitations make it easy to plan her own celebration separately.

Who to Invite and When to Send

A sprinkle guest list is usually shorter than a shower list. Think close friends, immediate family, and the people who will actually help in those first months. Coworkers and acquaintances who came to the first shower don't need an invitation this time, and most will understand. If the mom-to-be is worried about leaving someone out, a smaller list is part of what makes a sprinkle a sprinkle. Our guide to who to invite to a baby shower can help with tricky cases.

Partners, older siblings, and kids are often welcome at sprinkles, since the event is about the whole family. Say so on the invitation if that's the plan: "Kids and partners welcome!"

When to send: about three to four weeks before the sprinkle. Most sprinkles happen in the second half of the pregnancy, often six to ten weeks before the due date, so mom is comfortable and the baby hasn't arrived early. For a virtual sprinkle, two to three weeks is fine. Set the RSVP date about a week before the event. For more on timing, read when to send out baby shower invites.

Digital invitations fit sprinkles especially well. They are quick to send, easy to update, and simple to reply to. With Rizz Invites, guests RSVP from a text or email without an account, and you can see in one place who's coming and whether they're bringing kids.

A baby sprinkle is a small, sweet way to say every baby is worth celebrating. Keep the invitation light, clear, and warm, and let the cake do the rest.
